To the Moon and Back

To the Moon and Back is a heart-wrenching personal documentary about a young woman's journey home as she attempts to heal her emotional scars and rekindle her lost relationship with her crack-addicted birth mother. At age 24, after a lifetime of living in and out of foster homes, even enduring a suicide attempt, Tarah is living in NYC as a fashion model. On the surface she seems to have a picture perfect life, but in reality, Tarah has still not accepted the injustice of her childhood.

Shot over the course of two years, Tarah documents the long, often painful process of reunion. As she gets to know her mother, Tarah begins to intimately understand her mother's struggle with her addiction and comes face to face with who she is and where she comes from. The emotionally moving, often raw images, along with Tarah's own personal journal entries let us experience firsthand the extraordinary challenges she faces as she begins to realize how painful acceptance of one's past can be.

Ultimately what began as the singular journey of a daughter looking to reunite with her mother has proved to be the only thing to save these two lost souls. In this harrowing documentary, an addict not only finally begins the process of recovery, but becomes the parent she never could be. And more profoundly, a daughter comes to terms with her past and learns to love a mother she never had. To the Moon and Back is an extraordinary tale and a testimony to the power of the love and endurance between a mother and child against all odds.
